About Ian

I'm a writer, technologist, investor, and musician who lives with my family (plus a beagle) in South Staffordshire, UK.

I've worked for various tech companies since I left college, including being an early employee of Stripe (I was employee seventy-something globally, and one of a handful of people employed in the EU), where I :

managed teams, replied to support requests, built processes, trained staff, helped big companies with integrations, gave feedback on Y-Combinator applications, wrote code, worked with external financial institutions, redeveloped the help site...

I left Stripe a couple of years ago after realising that I preferred working with smaller startups, and I'm currently spending time with my family and working on the more creative side of my life. I'm also providing mentorship services and some occasional consultancy work, so if you have a particularly interesting project then I'd love to hear about it.

Other stuff:

I volunteered at local wildlife centre Gentleshaw, where I was usually found making the bats fly around me for school groups or taking the resident wolf dog for a walk.

I created ‘hyperlocal’ news source Connect Cannock, a website that had a brief foray into the world of physical newspapers, delivered to various homes around the area. We ended up being referenced in a book about hyperlocal media (I think this is it) and attended a launch party in the House of Commons

Amateur micro-electronics is a fun hobby, particularly if you like to make Halloween props.

I'm a reasonably decent guitarist / musician, and dabble in multiple styles (along with some producing when I get chance). I should probably be a lot better than I am, considering, but it’s still fun.
